After his 20 year career teaching philosophy of science at UBC, Ed joined the biotechnology company, QLT in 1988. As Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, he helped form and manage strategic alliances that enabled the company to develop the first medical treatment for macular degeneration, an eye condition that is one of the leading causes of blindness. Upon retiring from QLT in 2002, Ed was an Adjunct Professor at UBC. In addition to working with a family foundation, ILLAHIE, he has served on a number of boards including Tides Canada, BC Civil Liberties Association, PIVOT Foundation, Oncolytics Biotech, Climate Smart, Lawyers’ Rights Watch (Canada), Neal Squire Society, WelTel, and Lund Harbour Board.
